This is an all points bulletin for good ideas. The subject is rigging a Kubota 2410 to a rope tow to bring kids on their sleds up a rope toe. I figure you've gotta put a freestanding wheel at the bottom but how can the three-point-hitch be fashioned to work at the top of the hill to pull the kids up? Thanx.

Auggie, take a look in my profile pics 12 - 17. Maybe you can fabricate a hitch like mine and afix a tow rope to a tow hitch of some type. If you are interested my friend who makes these hitches can fabricate a hitch like mine for you for $140 plus shipping. What I would do is park the tractor at the peak of the hill, put a stand on your 3 point hitch, raise it to its highest height, and get up on the stand Then you can better see your kids walking up the hill pulling their sleds behind them like we had too.. ....

While it is not advisable to tow people with a machine of any sort, it could be done easy enough. There are several ways, each of which would require STRICT attention from the operator for safety's sake.
If you don't mind spending a little time, and are relatively handy, I would the best solution would be to make a spool driven by a hydraulic motor and mount it to the CUT, on the FEL would be the easiest to operate, and give the best vibility.
The down'n'dirty method would be to make a pipe-like adapter to replace the auger bit on a PHD, stick the bottom into the frozen ground to act as a bearing, a few passes of a rope around it and downhill to a pulley. Not gracefull or pretty, but it works. I know because we've used this method as an emergancy winch.
BTW, be aware over-stretched rope can become a missile if it snaps.
You might be better off using a long rope and just driving in a circle, bottom to top and back dragging a long rope behind.

Chief, I usually like to imagine and create new applications with the best of them but the thought of kids, 3 points, PTOs and ropes mixed together sounds like way too much fun. :-) ....

How long of a hill? Is the rope going to be a continous loop?
Back in the olden days, and some places still, a tractor had a spare rim bolted on the right side and a long continous rope with a long splice was used by looping it around the rim 2X. A batter board was used to make sure no one got around it or thru it.
If this arangement you are trying to do is only going to be used a few times a year this would not be practical.
How about an old wagon and make a trail up?
Tractor supply does have pto driven fence rollers you might wanna look at those for a quicker idea. But if you do something like that make sure you have a good batter board set up.
I've road up many a hill on a rope tow, rope tows are still used in many ski areas yet.
It does take a very stout 1.5" and expensive rope to get 300 feet or more up a hill.
As I think about this some more depending on what you have to work with. You could get an old truck diffrential a short dirve shaft hooked thru an old transmission and put your tractor on that with the pto.
I look at the side hill by me all the time. Its steep and lots of trees a good place to play all day.
Rope is way to expensive!!!!!! ....

Thanx all. And Harvey, great idea. As to the expense, well, it's for the kids after all. You hit the nail on the head: I do not plan to drag the kids behind the tractor, though that's been done before. I just wanted to figure out how to rig a rope tow like we all had on small ski hills that worked off the PTO. ....
